When the sun goes down but the wind is still howling, the MVP Eclipse Photon is the disc you want on the tee pad. Serving as the ultimate night-round workhorse in the MVP Photon Collection, this 11-speed driver brings highly dependable overstability to our disc golf distance drivers collection. Known for handling massive torque and laughing at headwinds, the Photon gives you that classic, aggressive fade you need when accuracy and distance matter equally. Packed with MVP's industry-leading glow technology, this run ensures you never lose your most reliable distance driver in the dark.

Flight Numbers

With an 11-speed rim and a solid 5 glide, the Photon gets down the fairway in a hurry. The -1 turn offers just enough high-speed panning for big arms to get a full flight, but the defining feature is that aggressive 2.5 fade. Once this disc slows down, it bites hard into the fairway, making it incredibly predictable.

Speed Glide Turn Fade
11 5 -1 2.5

The Eclipse Photon delivers:

  • Headwind Dominance: Cuts straight through a stiff breeze without flipping over or washing out to the right.
  • Forehand Reliability: Handles massive off-axis torque, giving sidearm players a disc they can snap hard without fear of it burning into the dirt.
  • Aggressive Finish: Consistently hooks up at the end of its flight, providing the reliable distance control needed for long hyzer bombs.

It excels at:

  • Night rounds where you need a true, overstable distance driver that glows brighter than anything else on the card
  • Forced anhyzer flex lines that need to fight back and fade out aggressively
  • Spike hyzers over tall trees that crash predictably onto the green

Eclipse Glow Plastic

MVP’s Eclipse plastic is legendary for a reason—it is arguably the brightest, longest-lasting glow plastic in disc golf. A quick hit with a UV light charges it up for multiple holes. Beyond the glow, Eclipse plastic is incredibly durable. This slight stiffness naturally makes the Eclipse Photon slightly more overstable out of the box than standard runs, giving big arms a pure meat hook that takes seasons of heavy tree kicks to beat into a straight flyer.

How the Photon Fits in the MVP Lineup

  • Vs the MVP Neutron Photon: The standard Neutron run offers premium grip and a slightly more pliable flight plate. The Eclipse version will typically fly a bit more overstable, making it the better choice for extreme headwinds or glow golf.
  • Vs the MVP Fission Photon: Fission uses micro-bubble tech to allow for much lighter weights, making the Fission Photon way more workable and easier to flip for average arm speeds compared to the beefy, max-weight Eclipse run.
  • Vs the Innova Destroyer: The Photon acts as MVP's answer to the Destroyer. While both are go-to overstable workhorses, the Photon's 11-speed rim is slightly more manageable in the hand for a wider range of players, and the GYRO overmold helps it retain spin for a penetrating fade.

Frequently Asked Questions About the MVP Photon

Is the Eclipse Photon too overstable for beginners?

Yes, for players just starting out, an 11-speed driver with a 2.5 fade will act like an extreme meat hook, diving to the ground quickly. Newer players should look at understable fairways first, or grab a lightweight Fission Photon if they really want to try the mold.

How does the Eclipse Photon handle forehand throws?

It is exceptional for sidearms. The flat top and firm Eclipse plastic give you a very clean release, and the inherent overstability fights the natural torque of a forehand snap beautifully.

Does Eclipse plastic change the flight of the Photon?

Typically, yes. MVP's Eclipse plastic tends to mold up stiffer and slightly more overstable than standard Neutron or Plasma. If you want the beefiest, most headwind-resistant Photon available, Eclipse is the way to go.
